More fun was had up AF Canyon last night along our adopted trail as we removed a washing machine that had been pushed off the "narrows" section of the trail down into the ravine below.
Using a snatchblock we put together a simple but effective system that allowed us to do a straight pull up the hill while not blocking the road during the process.
Pictures dont do the hill justice and although it doesnt seem like it, the top 20 feet of the hill isnt climbable without the assistance of a rope to hang onto. Between the steep hill and the loose rock all over it and at the bottom, it made for a challenging experience.
While on our way back down from our adventure, we came across a group whose grandson had gone off the side of the narrows on a 4 wheeler and ended up 300' down in the river surrounded by heavy tree and brush. We offered our assistance and were able to help get it pulled back up onto the road before it got too dark. We were amazed the 4 wheeler was still in as good of shape as it was considering the terrain it went through on the way down.
Huge thanks to Bud Bruening and his eagle eyes for spotting the washing machine during our last trip up the canyon. Even knowing where it was, it was still a challenge to see it.
As always, if you see items that have been dumped up the canyon please let us know. We are happy to do what we can to keep these areas pristine.
